Tech Knowledge - part 1
Do you know the history behind the iconic power button symbol? This symbol has been around since 1973. Invented by the International Electrotechnical Commission. The symbol itself uses two parts. The line in the middle is a number 1. While the circle represents a 0. This combination is a reference to the binary code of 1's and 0's. It also symbolizes going from 0 (off) to 1 (on) or visa versa. They can also represent 1 (uninterrupted) and 0 (interrupted). Either way... 1 to 0 or 0 to 1.
One explanation says the 1 looks like a finger and the 0 is the button. And another says the word circuit resembles the word circle and the break in the circle by the line is breaking that circuit or turning it on or off.
So, you can say you were today years old if you didn't know this connection.
